A Celebration of Life
Leonard England born on April 9th,1935 entered into eternal celebration late evening March 15th, 2024 to greet his greatest friends in his 88 years, Alan “Al” Ames and Joseph “Benji” Bencivenga. He has been received with the most welcome of parties and a Jack Daniels, neat, into the gates of heaven.
He left the physical earth immensely loved by his wife, Dianne England, sister Margaret Yendrick (Michael), each of his children, Robert England (Lori), Richard England (Sharon), Suzette Dowling (Rick), and Cathleen Ames (Alan), as well as his grand and great-grandchildren Christopher Dowling (Monica), Nicholas Dowling, Rachel Pernini (Brandon), Brian England, Brianna Ames, Brandon England, Olivia Dowling, Lucas Dowling, Annabelle Dowling, Cole Dowling, Alaina Pernini, and Eleanor Pernini, nieces and nephews Deborah Yendrick, Dawn Yendrick, & Michael Yendrick (Meghan) with many other cousins and family alike. He is predeceased by both his parents Caroline Negri and Harry England (New Providence, NJ).
Leonard England was a one-of-a-kind, tell-it-like-it-is man. A veteran of the army, a police officer of New Providence, and a skilled mechanic and patriarch, he was an unbridled force to be reckoned with. He lived his life with no regrets, and nothing left unsaid, he loved hard, laughed harder, and enjoyed his family unapologetically and voraciously. He did life His Way and the England family has happily followed in those footsteps. He mirrored these philosophies in his death, doing it his own way, the way he preferred it.
He was a unique and devoted man. Often thought of as a man of steel-exterior with a loving inside that you only could be privy to if you were lucky, and was well-known by any and all people that were fortunate enough to cross his path.
A man of few, but colorful words, he prided himself as the teacher of hard work, life skills, and difficult lessons. As a testament to his great legacy, none of the England’s have come out the other side of life without learning his incredible wisdoms and mirroring his vivid personality, which will be passed on through generations to come.
He is fiercely missed and loved by his family and friends, and there will be a “Grandpa-sized” hole in the hearts of all he touched in this lifetime. With all the respect of many to this husband, father, hero, and patriarch, we send him into eternal life in the happiest and greatest of celebrations. There will be an event at the Paca Club to pay homage to the champion of opinion and love, Leonard “Big Len” England, in the near future. Please contact the family directly if you would like to attend.
