Sherrill "Tinsey" Allen Coats, age 72, passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 1, 2021, at his home in Dunn.

Mr. Coats joined the United States Army in 1968. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Coats was a longtime resident of Harnett County. He worked as a mechanic and paint/body technician at his family owned and operated business, Coats Body Shop, for many years.  He loved his family, friends, and his "little peanut" and only daughter, Shirley Faye.  He had a close relationship with his baby sister, Tammy Coats Jackson and adored his favorite niece, Mary Lou Jackson and great niece, Athena "Boo" Fowler.  Mr. Coats also adored his pets, Bella and Oscar.

Aside from being survived by his daughter, sister, and nieces, Mr. Coats leaves behind two brothers; Billy Coats and wife Margaret and Jackie Coats and wife Jeanne. He also leaves behind three nephews and two nieces.

Mr. Coats was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sherrill Coats and Mary Lou Horton Coats; his niece, Michelle Coats, and his furbaby grandson, Murphy Joshua Coats.
